Great, but surely 1564 is too early?? Maybe 1580s-90s? (influenced by Annibale Carracci?)

Oh I’m guessing, too tired to Google… :)

I love this piece!

The Orchestra of St. Luke’s performs Morton Feldman’s brief Madame Press Died Last Week At Ninety (1970), conducted here by John Adams, from a 1991 release on the Nonesuch label entitled American Elegies.

It is one of the first pieces Feldman wrote in what would later become his “proto-minimalist” style.

Pianist Sergio Godínez plays the last of the Three Film Scores for piano, the Waltz for Cameron. This was written in December 2008 and it marks a maturing of the new tonal language I had found previously in the year. Sergio says that this piece is “all over the place” because of its sudden key changes. Aside from that there is a lot of elegant sevenths and ninths, and the entire piece takes a cue from a similarly named piece by Bill Evans, his famous Waltz for Debby.

This piece was written for and dedicated to Cameron D.

Here is a beautiful, lilting, lullaby-like piece by Joe, full of bittersweet tenderness. Thankyou :)

Pianist Sergio Godínez plays my Waltz for Frank Newmyer, Jr. (Gladwin, Michigan) written for a film by the aforementioned dedicatee. It’s the second of the Three Film Scores for piano. Look for a new post tomorrow.

If you might feel it bears certain similarities with the folk song Doe Eyes, recognizable from The Bridges of Madison County, the main melodic contour is somewhat similar to Doe Eyes, but this piece has a more modern sentiment. Sergio said that this piece was his second on his list of favorite piano music of mine, because of its elegant chord structure and sophisticated counterpoint.

Another lovely Galvanic piano piece :)

Joe Galván plays Divine Consolation, the third of his Hymn Tune Variations for piano, live at Wall/Gates Hall at Texas Tech University, on April 7th, 2009.
Another Joe piece

Pianist Sergio Godínez performs a read through of my Mulheres Apaixonadas (Women in Love), written for Pete Arden. The title is a very obscure reference to the title of a Brazilian soap opera, and also to the book Women in Love, by DH Laurence. This is my most romantic and cinematic piece I have yet composed.
I didn’t think I could listen to this as I’m only on my iPhone which can’t handle Flash (for Tumblr audio files). So when I discovered the Tumblr app *can* play audio, I almost had kittens! Then I heard the music…

Mejoe, this is so melancholic & romantic, it’s quite beautiful. And yes, I also thought it very cinematic too - and then reread your description :) Thanks to Sergio, Pete & to you!

Yay for Igor Stravinsky!!
I agree, although the Google doodle doesn’t capture anything about his music AT ALL

Indian Summer

The last two days have been beautiful: cool, bright, sunny, with warming gentle sunshine. Thankfully yesterday was Sunday so I was able to get out and about!
